After 20 years a sewing needle was discovered in a woman’s foot. 23 year old Taliah, began training for a marathon and then started experiencing excessive pain and swelling in her foot. She then visited a specialist who thought it was a stress fracture and attempted to take an MRI scan of the foot. The MRI machine could not take any images because of the metal lodged inside, in fact the machine wouldn’t even turn on.

During an x-ray they spotted a foreign object, a broken sewing needle. Taliah’s mother confirmed when she was 3 years old she did have an accident in the sewing/craft room room but it never crossed their minds that part of the needle could remain in her foot. After removal of the metal Taliah was able to finish 2 marathons, 9 half marathons and numerous 10k and 5ks. The needle did affect the nerves in the patient’s foot and she reports it still feels weird today.
